The last blow, No. 2 converter 40 years since these two 25 ton vessels replaced three 16 ton vessels.

The end of a century of steelmaking in Workington.

Both retired and current employees came to witness the last blow. This view was taken from a gantry outside the blower's box affording a view down the casting shop. The C hooks of the casting crane await the last heat of steel while the stripper crane lurks at the far end of the bay.

The carbon flame of the last blow lights up a sea of sad, thoughtful faces. Many tears were shed this day.
