Blast Furnaces |
|
|
This is the east side and overlooking the cooling ponds. From left to right, furnace numbers 4,3, & 2. Seven cowper stoves served to heat the air blast. Steam from the bleeder valve of No 4 furnace indicates that it was off-blast at the time this photograph was taken. Furnaces 4 and 3 were loaded by a revolving bucket and 2 by an inclined skip hoist. The conveyor in the foreground brought coke from the coke ovens to the blast furnace bunkers. |
